Edinburgh Sainsbury's has windows 'cracked by air rifle' as police investigate

Several windows of a busy Edinburgh Sainsbury's store have been cracked with the damage reportedly being the result of youths using 'air rifles'.

At least six windows at the top of the Sainsbury's store on Inglis Green Road, near Longstone, were vandalised as police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Staff at the store claim that several youths caused the damage with air rifles and were reportedly caught on CCTV, as concerned shoppers noticed several cracks in the windows in recent days.

According to police, who were called to the incident on June 10, it is too early to confirm whether or not the damage was the result of an air rifle.

A spokesperson for the supermarket confirmed that the store was able to open as normal the next day and that officers are investigating the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 3.50am on Saturday, 10 June 2023, police were called to a report of vandalism to windows at a supermarket on Inglis Green Road, Longstone, Edinburgh. Enquiries are ongoing."
