Edinburgh police and fire service offer advice as 999 calls 'not connecting'

Emergency services have warned Edinburgh residents that calls to their 999 service are not connecting.

The issue has been blamed on a ‘technical issue’ which is impacting services across Scotland.

Both Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have advised members of the public to call 101 in the event of an emergency or to contact local call centres in the event of a fire.

Police Scotland have tweeted: "Due to a technical fault many 999 emergency calls are not connecting.

"Until further notice, please call 101 in an emergency. Please ONLY call in an emergency for the time being – wait until later to make 101 non-emergency calls."

The fire service added: "The National 999 system is experiencing technical issues, many calls are not connecting."

In the case of a fire emergency, please contact the below numbers until further notice:

North: 01382 835804

East: 0131 228 1367

West: 01505 331661

The issue has since been resolved.
