Edinburgh locals spot Prince William and Kate Middleton's iconic royal helicopter

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been spotted in Edinburgh on Wednesday morning ahead of a planned visit to Tynecastle Park.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are scheduled in to make a stop in Gorgie as part of their trip focussing on mental health organisations north of the border.

Locals caught a glimpse of the couple after spotting the iconic Royal Helicopter landing on the grounds at Holyrood Park just after 10am this morning.

The chopper could be seen in the clear blue sky making its way to the Queen's residence in Edinburgh, with Prince William and Kate Middleton were later seen leaving the area.

Delighted passers-by got to witness a rare piece of action and filmed from their mobile devices as park rangers and police officers awaited the arrival, whilst escorting them to and from the Palace of Hollyroodhouse.

In a change of scene from Kensington Palace, the couple will be heading to Tynecastle Stadium for a behind the scenes look at the 'Changing Room' programme.

Created by Heart of Midlothian FC, Prince William is booked in for a chat with organisers on how they use football as a vehicle to help men aged 30 to 64 talk about their mental health.

The planned tour, which also involves a trip to Glasgow, comes just one day after Princes Charles delivered the Queen's Speech, for the first time in history.

The Queen reluctantly pulled out of the annual event due to advice from doctors regarding her recent mobility issues.
