Edinburgh JD Sports call in police to investigate 'small drug stash' in store

Police were scrambled to Hanover Street in Edinburgh’s city centre after a small amount of drugs was found at the JD Sports store, Edinburgh Live understands.

A passer-by captured an image that shows two police officers making a call at the outlet that is located just off of Princes Street.

A police vehicle could also be seen parked in front of the shop.

The witness said: "I was strolling past and could see the officers had pulled up and looked as thought they were about to go into the store.

"It didn't look open at the time and it looked in darkness. One of the officers tried the door and then waved as if to signal to someone inside."

Further details were unavailable as to who the drugs belonged to, the exact quantity and what substance was reported to officers.

Police say that enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

Officers were alerted to the incident at around 5:50pm on Wednesday and were informed that there was a small amount of drugs on a premises on the busy city street.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.50pm on Wednesday, 13 April, police in Edinburgh received a report of a small amount of drugs found at a premises on Hanover Street. Enquiries are ongoing.”

On their website, Police Scotland say that “controlled drugs are classified as A, B or C depending upon how much harm they can cause to the user and to society.

“The most severe penalties relate to dealing or possessing Class A drugs. This includes drugs such as ecstasy, cocaine and heroin.”

If you find what you suspect to be drugs then please contact the police to inform them of the issue.

JD Sports was contacted for comment.
