Edinburgh hotel switches off lights to save energy - asking diners to use candles

During the cost of living crisis and the huge surge in energy bills, businesses have got to become ever more inventive in the ways they keep their lights switched on – or should that be off in this case?

One of Edinburgh's most popular hotels is offering a new event that will allow diners to enjoy an intimate meal in their restaurant by candlelight while helping them to save energy by allowing them to turn the lights off in their restaurant.

Rocco Forte Hotels, who run the Balmoral Hotel – recently named the best in Scotland, are hosting the candlelight cuisine evenings at their Brasserie Prince restaurant this month and next.

The team at Rocco Hotels posted about the event: "A beacon of light during the darkest months of the year, join us as our restaurants across Europe are illuminated by candlelight, creating a sense of intimacy and romance for very special evenings.

"Inspired by the desire to conserve energy, our bars and restaurants in Edinburgh, London, Munich, Berlin, Florence and Rome will be switching off their lights and welcoming guests to dine amongst the mesmerising glow of candlelight."

Having already hosted several successful dates, the restaurant is set to host more this month including Monday, January 16, Monday, January 23, and Monday, January 30, as well as February 6, 13 and 14.

A spokesperson for the Balmoral said: "During the months of January and February, Brasserie Prince offers the perfect spot for a romantic dinner for two, the candlelit evenings offer delicious dishes under the charm of candlelight, creating an intimate atmosphere as diners enjoy favourites from the brasserie's menu, such as steak frites and creme brûlée, with wine selected by the Sommelier.

"Candlelit Evenings by Rocco Forte Hotels will bring a beacon of light during the darkest period of the year for those looking to dine or drink in beautiful surroundings with alluring radiance."

You can enjoy the candlelit culinary experience at the Brasserie Prince by booking on their website.
