Edinburgh hotel 'sorry' after guest left 'spooked' by unusual and 'sad' experience

An Edinburgh hotel has apologised after a guest was left 'spooked' after spending the night.

The woman spent visited Leonardo Royal Edinburgh Haymarket but took to Tripadvisor to share how she was disappointed and felt 'vulnerable' after her stay.

While she acknowledged that the hotel was clean and enjoyed the breakfast, she was concerned when expensive equipment went 'missing' and clothes that did not belong to her appeared in the wardrobe.

She wrote: "A sad review as I hoped for a better experience. The room was clean and breakfast was good (although a bit overpriced). Unfortunately, expensive equipment went ‘missing’ from our room and some clothes appeared in the wardrobe during our stay which did not belong to us.

"This spooked us. When asking the hotel to investigate, they made an attempt to locate the ‘missing’ items but then did not follow up. As for the clothes, all we got were baffled expressions and silence. The initial response on investigation was that the clothes were not there (despite photo evidence) and then no other suitable response.

"Left hotel with a feeling of broken trust and vulnerable. Not what I was hoping for."

In response, the hotel replied: "I am very sorry to read that your recent stay didn't meet your expectations. It's our sincerest wish to make our visitors feel at home, in the most comfortable and luxurious way possible and I can only apologise that the issues you've raised prevented that.

"We will pass on your feedback about how your interaction with the staff was perceived because excellent service is our greatest priority and if any further training is found to be required, we will ensure that it takes place."

The Leonardo Royal Edinburgh currently ranks four stars on Tripadvisor with many praising the cleanliness, location and staff.

Another guest said: "We enjoyed everything about this hotel. The staff took care of our cases so we could enjoy our day before we checked in at 3pm. The room was very clean and warm . The breakfast buffet had a good selection to please most people. The reception staff directed us when we asked for advice on how to get to Dean village. Would recommend this hotel to anyone, nothing we could dislike. Thank you all for a lovely weekend. "

Another said: "This is a middle of the road Hotel, that offers good rooms, with the amenities one would like. It certainly lacks atmosphere but the servicing staff are helpful and cheerful. The windows in the hotel rooms have double glass panels, but I was surprised that these were not keeping the noise outside. At the fifth floor you could follow the cars that were driving five floors down."
