An eBay seller from Edinburgh is chancing their luck in a bid to get thousands of pounds richer, by listing one 50 pence coin on the website for a hefty price tag.
The Edinburgh-based seller has listed a rare coin that they allege is from 2010 on the website, for the whopping price of £5,000.
The 'rare' Diversity Built Britain 50p first went into circulation in 2020, with over 10 million coins made. However, the back of the coin shown in the listing also proves it was created in 2020, and it isn't actually that rare. In fact, this coin is the 59th most scarce according to Change Checker's latest scarcity index.

Change Checker values a standard, but certified BU copy of the coin at £4.50. However, this seller is listing the coin at £5,000 value, with free postage included.
The Royal Mint has shared that there is a rarer version of this coin - as only 2,500 of the silver proof piedfort version were made. This version of the coin is still only worth as much as £102.50 in total.
Coin sellers are popular on eBay, with thousands of rare coins being listed each day.
From old-time coins like sixpence and shillings, to newer coins in limited mintage, currency is sold for much more than its initial worth all the time.
