Edinburgh driver caught out by police after overweight van had 'numerous defects'

An Edinburgh driver was caught out by police this week after heading out in a van with 'numerous defects'.

Road Police had been in the capital on Friday (April 15), where they spotted the individual who had been operating the open-backed vehicle near Portobello.

Pulling the vehicle to the side of Willowbrae Road, officers quickly established the car, carrying a fridge freezer and other household waste, was breaking a number of rules.

"The vehicle was overweight by (17%) and had numerous other defects. Reported to Crown Office & Procurator Fiscal Service."

It is not the first driver to have been stopped in the city this week, after another driver was allegedly caught without any insurance after they had stopped to grab some breakfast.

Road Policing Scotland confirmed they had came across the motorist at the weekend parked on a crossing near Corstorphine.

Parking on a no-stopping zone on Drum Brae South, a community team of officers had run checks on the vehicle and its owner, after spotting it parked illegally.
