Edinburgh Deliveroo dad's livelihood in tatters after both motorbikes stolen in two weeks

An Edinburgh dad says his livelihood has been left in tatters after having both of his motorcycles stolen in the space of two weeks.

Delivery driver Daniel Deniz has been unable to work since callous thieves pinched his Pulse BT49 scooter while taking fast food to a customer on January 22 - 14 days after his Honda Vision bike was also nicked in similar circumstances.

The self-employed worker, who makes most of his money through apps such as Deliveroo and Uber Eats, was also targeted by yobs throwing “bricks” at him after desperately calling for police assistance following the second theft in Pilton.

He later found parts of one of his bikes strewn across a park in the area while out searching for the stolen scooter.

Daniel, originally from Spain, admits his future looks “bleak” unless he is able to get the vehicles back, adding he will not be able to return to work without them.

He told Edinburgh Live : “I can’t earn any income from my job, it has affected me a lot.

“I feel very bleak having lost two bikes in 14 days.

“I can’t work now and I don’t know what is going to happen.”

During the first theft, Daniel was delivering an order to a customer at a block of flats in the Coxfield area of Gorgie at around 6:45pm on January 8.

He returned downstairs to the front of the building to find the dark red Honda gone “in less than two minutes”.

Daniel reported the issue to police, but suffered a second incident two weeks later in West Pilton Grove when the Pulse model, also red in colour, was stolen from outside the Inchcolm Grove block just before 10pm.

On that occasion, while on the phone to officers to inform them of the theft, he was approached by four youngsters who proceeded to launch large chunks of “brick” in his direction, with one whizzing past his head and the other striking him on the ankle.

The rowdy youths later fled the scene in the direction of Easter Drylaw Drive, but when he returned to the area days later, he discovered a cover, cabling and gloves for the bike stashed on ground near a playpark.

Daniel flagged down a passing police car to report his findings, but he is yet to receive any information on the whereabouts of his stolen bikes.

He said: “I have a real feeling of injustice at the moment.

“I don’t know where my bikes are, they have been stolen and I can’t work.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers received report of the theft of a maroon Honda Vision moped from Coxfield in Edinburgh around 6.55pm on Saturday, 8 January, 2022

"Officers also received a report of the theft of a moped from West Pilton Grove in Edinburgh around 9.50pm on Saturday, 22 January, 2022.

"Enquiries are ongoing.”
