A small Edinburgh café specialising in gluten free food has been named in the top ten percent of restaurants worldwide on TripAdvisor.

Upon entering the café, husband and wife duo, Noble Bouizegarene and Sarah Omari, greet their customers warmly. They have many regulars who come for their wide variety and choice of gluten free food.

L’etoile Salon de Tea which translates in English as the Star Tea Room, is a mix of Scottish and French cuisine. They offer both a Scottish breakfast and a French continental one. For lunch you can choose from tartine, paninis, quiche, soups, and baguettes.

Talking about the quiche on their menu, Sarah said: “We are from the area in which quiche was actually invented, the quiche Lorraine”

And for those who still have room after or have a sweet tooth, you can choose from many of the patisseries on offer. Not only are most of them gluten free and dairy free but are also all handmade by Noble and his wife Sarah.

Sarah is celiac herself so to have choice of gluten free food was important to her and Noble. With everything gluten free on the menu apart from the pain au chocolat and croissants, Noble says “you cannot believe the size of community we have that are after gluten free”

Their desserts are so delicious, they even have a customer who sends their chauffeur from Inverness to get them. They can also make big celebration size versions of their famous deserts and quiches for special events.

Talking about being voted in the world’s top 10 percent of restaurants, Noble says: “It feels great, it feels like you are appreciated by the customers”

They have a lot of regulars, some coming every single day. They have most of their tourist customers in the morning and their regulars coming for lunch. A lot of their customer base grows by word of mouth, with them barely using social media for promotion.

When asked about whether they plan to expand, Noble says: “no, no, we are quite happy to be honest. We want to keep this as a family business.”
