Edinburgh braced for thunderstorms this week as wild weather barrels in

Edinburgh residents are bracing themselves for thunderstorms this week as a period of wet weather is set to befall the city.

Meteorologists at the BBC have said that thunderstorms are set to batter the capital on the afternoon of Tuesday July 4.

The storms are due to commence at around 2pm and will last for around an hour before they dissipate into spells of showers for the remainder of the late afternoon and evening.

Those looking to head out for a spot of lunch or round of golf should try their best to avoid being outdoors during the most intense period of the storm around 2pm.

Those looking to travel at around this time should also take caution as water on the surface of the road can lead to challenging conditions.

Edinburgh has enjoyed high temperatures throughout the month of June but it appears as though there will be showers scattered throughout the beginning of July.

Wednesday will start dry but overcast with temperatures peaking at 16 degrees before showers come into play at around 4-5pm.

Thursday will see sunny intervals breaking through overcast skies throughout the day and temperatures are expected to rise to 18 degrees.

Friday will be a relatively muggy day with temperatures climbing to 19 degrees but the morning, afternoon and early evening will be graced by constant showers.

Saturday will see temperatures rise further to 20 degrees but unfortunately the rain will last from 6am until midnight which will make enjoying the warm weather difficult.

However Sunday will see a return of the beaming sunshine with clear skies and temperatures of 19 degrees being in place throughout the afternoon and early evening.

So if you have a summer party or barbecue planned, it is best to hold out for Sunday when the sun returns to our skies.
