The M8 eastbound motorway near Livingston, West Lothian will be closed for six nights starting at the end of August for road resurfacing. On Tuesday, details were released about when and where drivers can expect disruptions.
The eastbound section of the eastbound M8 between Junction 3A and Junction 3 will be closed to traffic from 8.30pm until 6.00am for six nights beginning on Tuesday, August 30, excluding the weekend.
During the day, lane restrictions will remain in place, but BEAR Scotland, a leading provider of road maintenance services, has said hard shoulders will be used to maintain two lanes of operation.
During the closures, a signed diversion route will be in place via the A779, A89 and A899. The diversion will add approximately 7 minutes and 5.5 miles on to affected journeys. However, emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said:
“These surfacing improvements will improve safety and ride quality for motorists using this section of the M8. Carriageway closures are essential for safety, however we’ve planned the works to take place overnight to minimise disruption and will do all we can to complete the project as quickly as possible. We thank motorists in advance for their patience and encourage them to plan ahead by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
The works are part a £352,000 Transport Scotland Investment in resurfacing improvements, with BEAR Scotland planning to renew approximately 1.1 kilometres of the trunk road.
Consultations have taken place with all relevant stakeholders in advance of these works to make them aware of the traffic management arrangements.
