Eden Hazard has backed Romeo Lavia to show his “qualities” at Chelsea this season.
The Belgian international became the club’s second midfield summer signing this week alone after a £58m move from Southampton on Friday.
Lavia has signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge and follows British record signing Moises Caicedo through the door at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have long been interested in the 19-year-old and even bid for him last summer only weeks after he left Manchester City for the south coast.
The Blues beat off competition from Liverpool for the teenager, much as they did with Caicedo, and Chelsea icon Hazard has backed his compatriot to shine.
“Last year wasn’t very good for Chelsea but this year will be more calm,” said Hazard in a video call with Lavia.
“There are a lot of things that have changed. Don’t worry, you’ll get the chance to show what you can do.
“We know what qualities you have.”
