Eddie Howe confirms two definite Newcastle United departures this summer

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has confirmed Isaac Hayden and Jeff Hendrick will be moved on this summer. The duo spent the season on loan at Norwich City and Reading respectively but have recently returned to Tyneside following the end of the Championship campaign.

Hayden was set to join the Canaries on a permanent deal should they return to the Premier League at the first time of asking but a disappointing second-half of the season saw David Wagner's men eventually finish 13th. The Magpies midfielder missed a huge chunk of the campaign after picking up a knee injury at the turn of the year.

Hendrick started the season in fine form at Reading as the relegation favourites upset the odds early on. However, that strong form didn't last long and Paul Ince's men dropped like a stone before succumbing to relegation, even after sacking the Manchester United legend.

Howe was quizzed on the midfield duo on Friday and admitted he wouldn't be reintegrating them with the senior side at Newcastle. "I had those conversations with the players last year about training away from the group, only so I could control the numbers I was working with. I don't anticipate that changing to be honest," the Newcastle boss said.

"They've done very well and been great servants to the football club and we certainly respect them. But sometimes you need a clear break and focus on the players who will play a part in the season."

One other player who is facing no future on Tyneside is Ryan Fraser. The winger was suddenly demoted to the under-21 setup earlier this year after a falling out with Howe.

Fraser made one appearance for the under-21 side towards the business end of the youth season but isn't expected to rejoin his senior team-mates in the coming months.

When asked if Fraser has a future at the club back in March, Howe said: "I think that’s a difficult one for me to answer, because I’d never put a firm decision on that, because life and football can change quickly. But I’d say at the moment, no he doesn’t."
