Eddie Howe admits Newcastle United players will kick themselves when they review the chances they missed against Sheffield Wednesday.
The Magpies’ defeat was being billed as the shock of third round day on radio phone ins on Saturday night. But Newcastle fans can still look forward to both the League Cup quarter-final against Leicester and a Champions League challenge moving ahead.
But after losing to the Owls, Howe said: “We haven’t experienced defeat a lot this season and it’s very painful, you don’t want to lose any game.
“We were determined to do well in this competition but it wasn’t to be and there’s always things to learn. We created chances tonight similar to the Leeds game that we didn’t win where we will kick ourselves when we look back at some of those moments and think how we didn’t score.”
