Ed Sheeran has said that American rapper Eminem "cured" his stutter when he was a child, which he developed after a medical incident.
British singer Ed, 32, is said to have developed a stutter after he had a birthmark lasered off of his face as a youngster, with Eminem's music helping to cure his speech impediment.
Ed got a stutter after he underwent treatment for the birthmark and, during one of the sessions, the medics forgot to numb his face while they lasered the birth mark away, which was situated near the singer's eye.
Due to the unbearable pain of the doctor performing the procedure forgetting to inject anaesthetic before proceeding with the laser treatment, it impacted Ed's speech.
Ed has now spoken out about how an iconic album by Eminem, The Marshall Mathers LP, helped him to find his voice while he went through speech therapy as a child after the incident.
The Thinking Out Loud singer has revealed: "I was going through all sorts of speech therapy. When I was nine, my uncle bought me The Marshall Mathers LP. He just said to my dad, 'This guy's the next Bob Dylan'.
"My dad didn't really clock it, he's just like, 'Okay, Edward's going to go and listen to that'.
"By learning that record and rapping it back to back to back to back, it cured my stutter," Ed explained on The Howard Stern Show.
The singer, who recently won a New York copyright trial for his track Thinking Out Loud, has worked with Eminem since shooting to global fame.
Speaking about the rapper, Ed said: "I’ve known him now six years and we’ve done three songs together, I’ve played with him twice on stage.
"He’s another person I really relate to, as he lives in his hometown still and has his ecosystem around him."
This comes just weeks after the 32-year-old was found not liable for copyright infringement by a Manhattan jury.
Ed was embroiled in a high profile court case after the estate of Ed Townsend, who wrote and composed Marvin Gaye's hit track Let's Get It On, accused him of ripping various elements of the song without credit or authorisation for his much-loved single Thinking Out Loud.
