EASYJET has announced the launch of a new route from Edinburgh Airport to one of the UK’s busiest international hubs.
The airliner will be operating flights twice a week from the Scottish capital to London Southend Airport starting from October 25.
Scottish holidaymakers will be able to travel with easyJet on Thursdays and Sundays, with the new route linking the two cities with a regular service, with fares starting from £23.99.
Kevin Doyle, easyJet’s UK country manager, said: “We are delighted to announce another new route from Edinburgh and even more package holidays this winter, providing customers with even more choice from their local airport, all with great value and fantastic service.
“We are committed to providing our customers across the UK with greater regional connectivity as well as supporting inbound tourism.
“Whether our customers are travelling for business or leisure, they can now book an even greater range of destinations with confidence, and we look forward to welcoming them on board.”
Located in Essex, London Southend Airport is best known as a regional hub used by travellers to bypass crowds and long queues associated with larger London airports.
The new route joins easyJet’s existing domestic network from Edinburgh, which includes services to Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, City of Derry Airport, Jersey, London Gatwick, London Luton, and London Stansted.
Stephanie Wear, chief commercial officer at Edinburgh Airport said: “Making it easy to travel across the UK is a priority for us, so it’s fantastic to see another direct route to London added. It gives passengers more seamless choice, and we’re delighted easyJet has partnered with us to deliver it.”
