Scotland could be treated to temperatures “as high as 16C or 17C” on Easter Sunday as warm weather creeps in over the bank holiday weekend.
The Met Office said conditions are set to be “fine and relatively nice” over the long weekend with “some sunshine” before conditions take a turn on Easter Monday. It said much of the UK, “especially in the west”, will be rain-free and enjoy sunny spells on Friday and Saturday, despite a “frosty start in places”.
Easter Sunday could then be the “warmest day of the year so far”, with highs of up to 17C expected in eastern parts of Scotland. While temperatures will heat up, it won't break last year's record of 19.5C.
Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said: "It could be a bit warmer for some, highs of 16C perhaps even 17C around the Edinburgh area so pretty warm indeed for the time of year."
Although the forecaster warned that while Easter Sunday will be warmer than usual at this time of year, Scotland will likely be cloudier with potential rain in places.
Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern said Scots would be treated to sunny and blue skies on Good Friday, with highs of "12C to 14C further”.
Similar conditions are likely on Saturday, when “the vast majority” of the UK can expect “spells of sunshine” after a “frosty start”.
However, the pleasant conditions won't stick around as a weather system moves in from the west on the afternoon of Easter Sunday and into Easter Monday, bringing rain and cloud.
Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan said: “It’s going to be the North West basically late on Sunday that will see the heaviest rain.
“There will be some gales around coastal regions as well of Scotland and Northern Ireland, particularly later on Sunday, so from a travel point of view, if you are making travel plans, there may well be some temporary difficult driving conditions late on Sunday and perhaps in eastern areas on Monday as well but overall we don’t anticipate any warnings being necessary through this coming weekend.”
