EastEnders' Jean Slater makes sudden exit from Walford ahead of 'drowning' horror

EastEnders aired an exit of sorts for Jean Slater on Wednesday night's edition of the BBC soap, as her mental health struggle continued - amid recent reports she could drown in tragic scenes.

The character's behaviour recently sparked concern with her loved ones, especially daughter Stacey, as she continued to act out.

From telling her young grandson Arthur about his dad's murder, to having a huge bouncy castle set up in the middle of the Square, Stacey was concerned she was having a manic episode.

Jean, like Stacey, suffers with bipolar disorder and Stacey had shared her concern over recent goings on, leading to her halting contact between her and her children.

Recent scenes saw the mother and daughter clash with Jean abandoning her and deciding Stacey was "dead to her", before moving in with Harvey.

On Wednesday, Stacey tried to explain to Harvey how her mum Jean’s current behaviour was evidence that she was experiencing a manic episode.

Harvey didn't understand though and claimed Jean was fine, leaving Stacey feeling helpless.

Later, Harvey suggested a trip out of London for Jean, and his lover was keen before insisting that they had to leave then and no later.

Stacey was stunned when she suddenly saw Jean and Harvey preparing to drive out of Walford, and she realised what was going on.

Her concern peaked as Jean refused to look at her, and told her Harvey was "taking her to the coast" for a trip.

Stacey headed over to ask where they were going and wasn't happy with Harvey after their earlier conversation.

As Jean sang, Harvey explained it was a spontaneous break and soon left, with Eve asking Stacey why she was letting them go.

It's then that she explained: "What am I supposed to do, she is not in danger yet... she doesn't want help, he was my last hope."
