EastEnders fans slam 'underwhelming' explosion as Walford blast bangs off-screen

EastEnders fans were left "underwhelmed" during Friday evening’s instalment of the soap, as a gas explosion at the Argee Bhajee turned out to be a muted off-screen incident.

Albert Square residents were thrown into turmoil amidst the ongoing fallout from the New Year’s Eve bomb threat from Aaron at The Albert, on instruction from Neil's far-right group.

The drama started during the clean-up operation for the party outside the Prince Albert as bleary-eyed Walford residents heard a bang go off in the distance.

Everyone was slight shaken up by the turn of events, as it was later confirmed that the bang had been a gas explosion at the Argee Bhajee.

But EastEnders fans took to Twitter to blast the plotline, as viewers had expected more from the fizzled explosion, with many not realising what the noise they heard actually was.

One fan wrote: "Have the BBC spent so much on the new set that all they can afford is sound effects these days? #EastEnders" alongside a laughing crying emoji.

Another tweeted: "And here I was hoping for a massive explosion #EastEnders" as a third said: "They could of done that explosion better tbh that was boring #EastEnders"

Another wrote: "That was the most over exaggerated explosion in the shows history i swear #EastEnders" while a fellow fan chimed in saying: "The explosion was a bit underwhelming #EastEnders"

A number of viewers weren't actually sure what had happened on Friday's soap until Callum Highway told Walford locals there had been a gas explosion at the Argee Bhajee.

One wrote: "The hell just happened #EastEnders", while another said: "Wth was that the explosion #EastEnders" and a third tweeted: "Oh that’s the ‘gas explosion’ #EastEnders".

BBC spoilers have revealed that in scenes set to air Monday, February 7, Gray panics when he sees the Argee Bhajee cordoned off with police tape following the gas explosion.

Eve sees his panicked response and he distracts her with the explanation that it’s a big day at the hospital - he can finally hold unwell baby Jordan.

But as the threat of murdered Tina’s body being discovered looms, desperate Gray returns to the Argee Bhajee in later scenes and poses as an insurance broker.

Murderous Gray tells a builder at the restaurant that he needs to assess the damage at the site.

The builder tells him that the restaurants will have to be stripped back - leaving Gray panicked.

Evil Gray goes into a meltdown, fearing that Tina’s body could be discovered.
