The prestigious Condé Nast Traveller has declared an East Lothian beach as one of Scotland's very best seaside gems.
Less than an hour outside of Edinburgh, Yellowcraig Beach, sometimes known as Broad Sands Bay, has inspired writers and visitors for decades. Now, the site has been recognised as a must see coastal destination.
"This gorgeous cove outside of North Berwick is a British beach in the old-fashioned sense of the word," Condé Nast wrote.
"The water is bone-chilling, winds sand-whip your legs and the ebbing waves dump seaweed and shells up to the tideline. Yes, it’s nature in the raw, but it’s also a kite-flying, bucket and spade paradise that lingers long in the memory."

Yellowcraig overlooks the famous Fidra Island and lighthouse. The lonely, desolate isle inspired Edinburgh-born author Robert Louis Stevenson's map in Treasure Island.
The lush sand beach is also surrounded by forest and grassland, and it is an important ecological area.
"The diversity of habitats at Yellowcraig ensure a rich assemblage of plants and animals are able to make this place their home," the East Lothian Council said.
"In summer orchids colour the low grasslands and seabirds wheel offshore. Whilst the seabirds may be around in winter too, the plants are not. Instead autumn colour is provided by grassland fungi and the turning leaves in the woods."
The beach is easily accessible from A198 following signs to Dirleton. East Coast Buses also operate the 124/X24 service from Edinburgh to North Berwick, stopping at Dirleton. The nearest train station is in North Berwick. Dirleton is within easy walking distance of Yellowcraigs.
Condé Nast Traveller also listed 17 other Scottish beaches in the article.
"Despite cold waters and unpredictable temperatures, Scotland is – perhaps surprisingly – home to some of the most spellbinding beaches in the UK," the article said.
