East Kilbride’s next manager target Mick Kennedy has been spotted at K-Park amid the club's search for a new manager.
Kennedy was in attendance at K-Park on Friday night as Kilby’s development team lost 1-0 to East Fife and on Sunday he resigned as boss of Darvel, following four years at the helm.
Last week, Lanarkshire Live Sport revealed the 42-year-old – who masterminded the West of Scotland League side’s shock for the ages when they dumped Scottish Premiership giants Aberdeen out of the Scottish Cup in January – is the man Kilby want to lead their Lowland League charge next season.
He is understood to be one of four candidates the club have spoken to about succeeding Kevin Rutkiewicz, which also includes interim boss Martin Fellowes who admitted he has thrown his hat into the ring for the job on a permanent basis.
Twenty-five-year-old Fellowes, who has held various coaching roles at the club during the past few years and is their current Under-20 head development coach, admitted he was aware of rumours that Kennedy is under consideration.
And he said: “Mick leaving Darvel certainly intensifies the rumours about him coming here.
“But who knows in football. I’ve been here with the club multiple times in the past and sometimes exactly what you think is going to happen, happens, but other times something comes from left field.
“I’ve seen it all at K-Park when it comes to managerial appointments.
“I have put my hat in the ring for it and I believe the club is going through a process.
“They will have to make a decision reasonably soon.
“But nothing distracts me or the players from the work we are doing between now and the end of the season.
“We can only control what we can control.”
It is understood Fellowes will continue to take the first team until the end of the season, either way.
Kilby will finish their Lowland League campaign on Saturday away to Cowdenbeath, but they are then due to face Gretna 2008 on April 28 in the first round of the Lowland League Cup.
EK are defending champions and if they are to hold on to their crown, it would extend their season until May 21 when the final is due to take place.
Should he be appointed, Kennedy is expected to bring ex-Broomhill boss and Open Goal podcast host Si Ferry on board as his assistant.
Players known to the duo have already been approached about joining the setup at K-Park next season.
