The company issued a statement explaining CCTV is being reviewed and police confirmed the two young teenagers have been reported to the Children's Reporter.

A witness told Lanarkshire Live: "I really don't know what East Kilbride is coming to. Police had to be called and a journey that should have taken 10 minutes took an hour. We were terrified.

"The youngsters involved were only about 12 or 13 I would say and they even faced-up to police when they arrived."

And a spokesperson for First Bus added: "We can confirm an incident took place on the No.18 bus on Saturday, May 21 and the police were called.

"We are currently conducting an investigation into the events that took place utilising our on board CCTV recording.

"We are also assisting police with their enquiries."

Police in East Kilbride confirmed there was an incident on Saturday at 5.20pm where two boys allegedly spat at the driver, occupants of the bus and police.

The said the pair were traced and arrested in connection with the incident and a report will be sent to the Children's Reporter.
