Some people love everything about flying – from the in-air food and drinks service, to getting time to watch your favourite programmes uninterrupted. However, for others travelling by plane means they will inevitably have to deal with pain in their ears.
There are some people who are more affected by ear pain than others, but it usually happens because the eustachian tube doesn't react fast enough when the air pressure changes rapidly.
There are several things that are supposed to work when you have earache, such as chewing gum, but for some people, including small children, this isn't an option.
A woman has shared an "amazing" hack to ease earache that flight attendants swear by.
Specialist Nurse Charlotte Stanley took to TikTok to share the incredible hack, which people in the comment section said had worked instantly for them.
In the video, Charlotte, who goes by the name The Ear Nurse, showed how she does the hack while onboard an airplane. She explained: "Ask your flight attendant for two plastic cups with two paper towels. Trust me, they will know exactly what you're asking for. Put these on both of your ears, causing an air tight seal."
Explaining how it works, Charlotte added: "The steam helps stabilise the pressure in the middle ear. It's all to do with barometric pressure. When the plane rapidly climbs or descends, it changes the pressure so quickly the eustachian tube often can't keep up."
She also added that the hack can be used for adults and children.
One person commented: "This absolutely works a flight attendant taught us this when my 6 yr old had an issue on a flight home many years ago!"
One flight attendant confirmed she loved the trick, saying: "I used to be a flight attendant and this is amazing! Hot cups! Best invention ever."
Another added: "I used to do this all my childhood!! I now use the airplanes ear plugs from boots and I swear they've been a blessing."
