Eamonn Holmes has given fans an insight into his efforts to get mobile again after being forced to use walking aids amid his ongoing health battle.
The GB News presenter, 64, took to Instagram on Wednesday to upload a video of him using an Alter G anti-gravity treadmill.
“Trying to remember what it felt like to have legs that worked,” he wrote in the accompanying caption followed by a thumbs up emoji.
The Northern Irish broadcaster gives a run down to his 88k followers about what he is doing in the clip and his hopes for how continued use of the machine could help him in future.
“Hello there. This is my latest exploit. This is what's called an anti-gravity treadmill. It's an Alter G anti-gravity treadmill,” Holmes begins.
“And the reason it's called anti-gravity is you'll see down here... I'm being supported by quite a big balloon.
“And the balloon holds my weight. What it does really, the machine, if I now walk or run in this, and it helps my legs and my body remember what it was like to move like this before things went wrong, that have been wrong for a long time,” he continues.
“So this gives me a certain amount of freedom and the idea is that I build up muscle memory and y'know things will happen, hopefully in the future.
“For the moment, I'll do half an hour on this. Cheers!”
According to the official Alter G treadmill website, it inflates from the waist down giving you a weightless feeling as you walk or run with as little as 20 percent of your bodyweight, making it a lot more comfortable to exercise.
In 2016, Holmes underwent a double-hip replacement operation lasting three-and-a-quarter hours after living with acute pain for many years. The TV presenter then had back surgery last year to help relieve the symptoms but has been left using a wheelchair after the operation went “wrong”.
He said: “You couldn't make it up. It's as if somebody is up there playing with my life.
“In the past year, I've had an operation on my back, which has gone wrong, which has confined me to wheelchair. I have had my mother dying, and I couldn't go to her funeral.”
Earlier this week Holmes announced a new career move.
He is set to be a regular host of The Travel Podcast, alongside his colleague and long-time friend Hayley Sparkes.
As well as hosting the show together, the duo are creating lifestyle marketing content for Not Just Travel. The move comes two months after he and Ruth Langsford confirmed in May that they are in the process of divorcing after 14 years of marriage, having first started dating in 1996.
A statement issued by a spokesperson at the time said: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”
