Eamonn Holmes was back on ITV within 24 hours of appearing to kickstart his feud with Phillip Schofield again.
Eamonn was on the celebrity edition of The Chase on Sunday night alongside Yunka Bokinni, Danny John-Jules and Tom Bosworth.
It was his first appearance on the channel since his former colleague Phil sensationally stepped down following weeks of rumours of increased tension between him and Holly Willoughby, as writes the Mirror.
Eamonn was let go from the ITV daytime show in 2018 along with wife Ruth Langsford and he's been very open and honest about his thoughts on his former co-star in the past.
Over the weekend, Phillip quit, releasing a statement saying that he would no longer be presenting the ITV show.
Sources had claimed earlier this month that the pair were "separate entities" and their friendship outside of their presenting partnership had "cooled". This led to Phil issuing a bombshell statement where he admitted that things had become "strained" between he and Holly, but insisted they were still great friends.
However, in a statement posted on his Instagram Story on Saturday, Phillip wrote: "I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, this Morning itself has become the story.
"Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind. I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.
"So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month."
Eammon, 63, took to social media shortly after and shared what seemed like could have been a cryptic swipe at Phillip.
Captioning his upload, he penned: "Pappa got a smacker. Thank u Emilia. All in all that rounded off what turned out to be a good day".
Fans who thought the former This Morning presenter was hinting at Phillip's exit responded back to the Irish journalist. One follower wrote: "Ha ha Eamonn, I know you must be happy with the news".
Another added: "I see what you did there. Love it".
Eamonn took an incredible £6,000 in the opening cash-building round of The Chase and later went head-to-head with Jenny 'The Vixen' Ryan in the next stage and he accepted the higher offer of £143,000 for charity.
Unfortunately he was beaten by Jenny after he incorrectly pressed the wrong button before being given the boot and sent home.
This didn't matter to fans who instantly took to Twitter to share their excitement, with one writing: "Expecting big things here with @EamonnHolmes #TheChase."
A second added: "I hope Philip Schofield is watching ITV tonight. A question about This Morning on Family Fortunes and now Eamonn Holmes on #TheChase."
"So is @EamonnHolmes appearing on #TheChase tonight also a coincidence? @ITV programmers are definitely earning their pay tonight," said a second.
While a third commented: "Eamonn put him back on This Morning with Ruth #TheChase."
The Chase is filmed several weeks if not months in advance.
