Eagles’ price range for new Jags WR Christian Kirk revealed

The Jacksonville Jaguars outbid other teams for former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Christian Kirk. They signed him to a four-year, $72 million deal during free agency this offseason.

One of Kirk’s potential suitors was revealed on Friday. The Philadelphia Eagles were willing to offer around $13 million a year, according to NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo. The Eagles bowed out once the price range hit $18 million a year.

Kirk’s contract with the Jaguars is pricey (though not necessarily back breaking), but the Jags have come out to say he will be used in multiple roles and not just in the slot. Additionally, he did just have a breakout season, catching 77 passes for 982 yards and five touchdowns. But Kirk’s production came as the third option behind other Cardinals wide receivers DeAndre Hopkins and A.J. Green. Arizona also struggled down the stretch that ended with the Cardinals losing 34-11 to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Wild Card round.

Even though most of Kirk’s numbers came from the slot position last season, he still has the versatility to play outside. He has 1,707 snaps out wide compared to only 1,278 reps in the slot, according to Pro Football Focus.

If Kirk hits 1,000 yards this season he would be off to a good start with the Jags. Fans certainly would be fine with the contract he received at that point because he would also be the first receiver to hit that mark since DJ Chark Jr. did in 2019.
