Eagle-eyed royal fans spot massive error on coronation medal handed to staff

Eagle-eyed royal fans believe they have spotted a huge error on a coronation medal which is due to be handed to over 40,000 people.

The medal- which will be given to frontline staff including members of the armed forces and emergency personnel- was unveiled by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport on Friday and features images of the King and Queen Consort.

However, despite the importance of the gong, the inscription on the medal appears to read the incorrect date reports news.com.

Some royal fans posted on Twitter pointing out the apparent error, stating that it reads "6 May 2033."

Royal fans thought they'd spotted a mistake on the medal (@dcms)

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: “Date is wrong. It‘s not 2033.”

Another said: “Why does it say 2033?”

A third said: “The Coronation Medal has the wrong date, it‘s not 2033.”

Despite fan's confusion, it is understood that the medal correctly reads 2023 and that 2033 is a trick of the light in the photo, which was released by the government.

Announcing the medal, the DCMS said: “Today the design of the Coronation Medal is unveiled.

“The Medal acts as a thank you from the nation to the people who will make the historic service happen, including members of the Armed Forces and frontline emergency service workers.”

Home Secretary Suella Braverman said: “This Medal is a symbol of the critical role our emergency services will play in this potentially once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to honour our new King.

“However, it rightly also goes further and recognises not just those who are helping at the Coronation, but the heroes across our emergency services, such as the police, fire and rescue services, that go to work every day to protect and support us all.”

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said: “Our Armed Forces and the Monarch have a unique bond.

“Our histories and customs mirror the reigns of Kings and Queens.

“Our deployments are in their names and our allegiance is sworn by each and every one of us.

“The Coronation Medal will celebrate that bond and allow huge numbers of service personnel to reaffirm that linkage as King Charles is crowned our new Monarch.”
