Some €17.5m worth of drugs have been seized. Gardaí have also taken possession of €3.9m in cash.

Inspector Ken Holohan of the Dublin Crime Response Team said that his taskforce has taken part in massive seizures since it was stood up on January 26 2023.

This includes seizures of drugs worth over €1m and over €500,000 in cash. This includes cannabis resin, cannabis herb, rock MDMA, cocaine, ketamine and LSD.

“We had a search on Saturday gone and we had 12 or 13 different types of drugs inside the premises,” Mr Holohan explained.

“They’re selling them on social media. Electric scooters are being used to transport drugs. “We have lads in tracksuits on E-Scooters running through suburban communities, transporting drugs”

He noted that “party drugs” such as LSD, cocaine and ecstasy are “very, very popular at the moment”.

Other items seized by the Dublin Crime Response Team task force include tasers, which were found stored in fake cans of baked beans.

The task force was rolled out on a pilot basis but Justice Minister Simon Harris said that it was a matter for Garda Commissioner Drew Harris on whether the resources were there for the programme to be extended.

He added: “Today is a very visual example of the excellent work done by the Gardaí in DMR [Dublin Metropolitan Region. And I'm very grateful to them for that.”
