E.ON blames Martin Lewis as website crashes on 'meter reading day'

Nottingham-based energy company E.ON says suppliers are facing an unprecedented demand on Thursday, March 31 as people are being advised to read their meters before new tariffs come in on April 1. The company has called out Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis.

According to DownDetector, a UK site which reports UK services experiencing issues at any given time, British Gas, EON and Scottish Power websites are all experiencing issues. Compared to the typical volume of reports for issues on the Scottish Power site, 325% more users were reporting issues at 10.15am on Thursday, compared to the same time on Wednesday.

E.ON says its website has been crashing as millions tried to post their latest energy usage on ‘meter reading day’. It comes after the money saving guru urged customers to send in their meter readings today because there is to be a huge price rise in power from April 1, Birmingham Live reports.
