The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has shed more light on when the new £150 disability cost of living payment will drop into the 'vast majority' of claimants' bank accounts. Around six million Brits are due to be paid the one-off amount.
With rising costs attached to virtually everything needed for everyday life - from milk to fuel - additional financial help is welcomed. It was understood that the new £150 disability cost living payment would begin to be paid from September 20, with the “vast majority” of those eligible expected to receive the cash by the beginning of October. However, who are those in the 'vast majority' category?
In a new update, DWP offered more of an insight. It said: “Those who had confirmed payment of their disability benefit for 25 May are expected to be paid shortly after the payment window opens". Adding that “For those awaiting confirmation of their disability benefits on 25 May, or who are waiting to be assessed for eligibility to receive disability benefits, the process may take longer but payments will still be automatic.”

Commenting recently on the upcoming £150 payment, the then Minister for Disabled People, Health and Work, Chloe Smith, was reported by Daily Record as saying: “We know disabled people can face additional costs, which is why we are acting to help reduce the financial pressures on the most vulnerable.
“This £150 disability payment is on top of the £1,200 most low-income benefit claimants will also receive and alongside wider support targeted at disabled people, including help with transport and prescription costs.”
Now, the newly appointed Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Ms Smith went on to urge people to check the Help for Households site on GOV.UK to make sure they are getting all the support they are entitled to claim.
