DWP PIP claimants could have payments stopped under holiday rules

For those considering a well-earned rest and holiday abroad, take into account the rules in place from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) before making that booking if you are receiving Personal Independence Payments (PIP).

According to reports, there are certain changes in circumstances that people receiving PIP must inform the DWP about or risk losing their benefit entitlement and having regular payments paused. Alongside things such as name and address changes or signing up with a different doctor or health professional, which all need to be reported to the DWP, leaving the country or planning to leave the country for a period of more than four weeks, even for just a holiday, should be reported as it may affect your entitlement.

The DWP guidance states: “This change may affect the claimant’s entitlement to PIP. We will need to know the date the claimant is leaving the country, how long they are planning to be out of the country, which country they are going to and why they are going abroad.”
