Millions of hard-up households got their first £326 of the Government's cost of living payment this week - but many more have been left wondering why they have not got theirs. The payment is the first instalment of the £650 announced by former Chancellor Rishi Sunak in May.
Panicked families have been taking to Facebook and Twitter to ask where their payment is and why they haven't got it yet, and people have responded with all sorts of possible reasons. @Thomas_Atkin_1 took to Twitter to ask: "I would like to know how they decide who gets it on which day, is it random? By Surname? By Job Centre? What algorithm decided who gets to eat tonight?" and @xKitteax asked: "For those who actually received the £326 #costoflivingpayment today, where are you from? I haven't got it yet."
Over on Facebook, budgeting groups were struggling to cope with the volume of people asking why they had not had their payment, and after hundreds of posts asking the same thing, one frustrated member said: "I read somewhere that the definition of insanity was doing the same thing over and over again, and hoping to get a different result. Ok off to check my banking app again."
