The Department of Work and Pensions has issued an update on when six million eligible people will start to receive the new £150 disability cost of living payment, reports WalesOnline.
The extra payment is for people with disabilities and is designed to help with gas and electricity costs, which continue to rise. Though the government's new Energy Price Guarantee caps bills at an average of £2,500 a year instead of the forecast £5,500 per year, (which is still almost double the cap in August last year of £1,277) the extra payment will come on top of the £400 being given to every household in the country.
The DWP will begin to pay the extra £150 from September 20, with the "vast majority" of those eligible expected to receive the cast by the beginning of October. Chloe Smith, who was appointed the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions to Liz Truss's new cabinet, told the Daily Record in her previous role of Minister for Disabled People, Health and Work: "We know disabled people can face additional costs, which is why we are acting to help reduce the financial pressures on the most vulnerable.

"This £150 disability payment is on top of the £1,200 most low-income benefit claimants will also receive and alongside wider support targeted at disabled people, including help with transport and prescription costs. Ms Smith continued, urging people to check the Help for Households site on GOV.UK to ensure they are getting all the support they are entitled to claiming.
