DWP bank holiday payment dates ahead of August and Christmas

The DWP has confirmed the payment dates for benefits ahead of the August bank holiday.

Tax credit payments are made every week or every four weeks. However, bank holidays can mean a change in the date a claimant is paid.

The next bank holiday is Monday, August 29, but for benefit claimants it could mean changes to when you receive your money next month. This often happens on bank holidays or other occasions when there is disruption to the regular working week.

According to YorkshireLive, it is most common that payments are made before the bank holiday takes place. But with the cost of living crisis causing people all over the country to tighten their purse strings more than ever, it can be vital to know exactly when your next payment is coming in.

With the next Bank Holiday coming up in August and the Christmas period fast approaching, the Gov.uk website has a list of dates on which people in receipt of tax credits can expect to see payments arrive early, Bristol Live reports. Here is a list of the remaining dates for this year and the start of next year that will be affected.

Tax credit payment due dates vs date they will be paid

  • August 1 - July 29
  • August 2 - August 1 (England and Northern Ireland only)
  • August 29 - August 26
  • December 26 - December 23
  • December 27 - December 23
  • December 28 - December 23
  • December 29 - December 28 (England and Scotland only)
  • January 2 - December 30
  • January 3 - December 30
  • January 4 - January 3 (England and Northern Ireland only)

When it comes to other benefits, you should receive your payments on the last working day before the Bank Holiday. This means that the tax credit payment date of August 26 should also apply to other benefit payments such as Universal Credit and PIP for the upcoming August bank holiday.

If your payment is late, the Gov.uk website advises checking the payment date on your award notice and contacting your bank before calling HMRC.
