Dutch World Cup legend insists Rangers 'cannot play football'

Dutch World Cup legend Wim van Hanegem insists Rangers 'cannot play football' ahead of their Champions League second-leg showdown.

But he reckons PSV Eindhoven could shoot themselves in the foot by insisting on building from the back when the sides meet tomorrow in the play-offs.

PSV have been criticised in their homeland media despite claiming a 2-2 draw at Ibrox and they are desperate to avoid a repeat of last year's clash at the same stage where they lost 1-0 at home to go out of the prestigious tournament to Rangers.

And van Hanegem - who won three titles, a European Cup and a UEFA Cup with Feyenoord as a player and one title as manager and was also a World Cup runner-up with the Netherlands - reckons it would be suicide if PSV continue their policy of passing the ball out from the back.

He said: "By now we know that Rangers cannot play football.

"But within a year PSV have played them three times and failed to beat them once.

"I'm curious to discover if PSV will again field a player facing their own goal again. They call it building from the back. The keeper plays a ball to a defender with someone right on him and the ball eventually gets yanked forward anyway.

"After the game at Ibrox, Joey Veerman said Rangers could only shoot balls into the stands.

"But a year ago he said Rangers won despite not having a single shot on target too and that it was unfair PSV were only in the Europa League.

"This is a game for the riches of the Champions League and PSV are giving goals away all because they are keen to show they can play football?

"They pass out from the back and swarms of Scots attack them. It's the wrong way to play against Rangers."
