That’s it for us tonight – be sure to check back for later coverage, and of course we will have all the updates tomorrow as well. For those interested in these sorts of things, Dan Tehan is on Insiders tomorrow, which should be fun for all involved.

Thank you to everyone who spent their Saturday night with us – a tough call in general, but especially with the state of politics lately. We truly appreciate it, and you.

We’ll be back with Australian politics live mid-March, but you’ll have the general news blog as well as all of our regular coverage to keep you company in the meantime.

And as always, please – take care of you Ax

The fallout of the Dunkley byelection will continue tomorrow – key on the agenda will be Advance’s failure, Labor maintaining its primary vote, the Liberal campaign not resonating, the “vindication” of the stage-three tax cut “broken promise” and what next for the Liberal party strategy if it wants to actually be a chance of winning enough seats to form government at the next election.

I have already received messages from Liberal party insiders saying the “whispers” over Peter Dutton and Sussan Ley’s leadership strategy will start up again. They went quiet after the voice referendum, but an election campaign is very different to a binary referendum choice. There are no moves to replace Dutton – and no one to replace him with, even if that was the mood (of which, so far, there is no inkling), but there is concern over strategy and the plan. This will play out over the next few months, with the push to release policies rather than just oppose what the government is doing, growing stronger.
