MotoGP has spent the better part of 15 years figuring out just how absurdly fast you can make a 1,000cc motorcycle before someone starts asking whether all those wings, electronics, and mechanical gadgets have gotten a little out of hand. The answer, apparently, is 2026. The current MotoGP formula is entering its final stretch, and Ducati is already reaching the point where squeezing more out of its Desmosedici GP26 doesn't make much sense.
Ducati test rider Michele Pirro recently admitted that there isn't much left on the development schedule for the GP26. Speaking to GPOne, Pirro explained that the test team's attention is increasingly occupied by the 850cc project that will replace it next season. That doesn't mean Ducati has parked the current bike in a corner and thrown a sheet over it. It does mean major new developments aren't exactly high on the shopping list.
