Dublin weather: Met Eireann predicts light rain at times with 'good spells' of winter sunshine

It's set to be a cloudy, cool start to the week with Met Eireann predicting light rain or drizzle for Dublin before a big change is due in the coming days.

According to Met Eireann, it will be mainly dry this morning with bright or sunny spells developing though a few showers may occur. Cloud will build in from the west through early afternoon with outbreaks of light rain and drizzle following.

Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees. Light to moderate westerly winds will later back southwesterly.

Meanwhile, it comes as Met Eireann has warned that stormy conditions could start around the Bank Holiday Monday on February 6 and continuing until Sunday, February 12. During the period of bad weather, Met Eireann is warning people to be aware that weather warnings “are possible during this period” and that “cyclone centres may pass close to Ireland."

According to the national forecaster the week starting on February 6 will see "unsettled" weather with cold fronts moving across Ireland in a mobile westerly airflow bringing spells of wet and windy weather.

Here's the forecast for the coming week:

Monday night

"A good deal of cloud tonight with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, clearing later in the night and followed by some clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees with southwest to west winds increasing fresh and gusty.

Tuesday

"Largely dry tomorrow with sunny spells and the chance of a stray shower. Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees but feeling cooler in fresh and gusty westerly winds.

Tuesday night

"Clear spells and showers, mainly affecting the north and west, merging to longer spells of rain there with some sleet possible on high ground. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 7 degrees in fresh and gusty westerly winds, strong at times in the north and west.

Wednesday

"Breezy at first with showers becoming widespread over the northern half of the country through the morning. The showers and winds will ease through the day though cloud will build from the west with outbreaks of light rain and drizzle following. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees."
