A Dublin man has hailed a Good Samaritan who pulled out all stops to recover a treasured Claddagh ring from a bottle bank.
David Delaney was heartbroken after a ring he was wearing accidentally fell into the huge container while he was putting his glass bottles in. The Raheny man said the ring was of huge sentimental significance as it belonged to his late father who died in 1995.
David told Dublin Live: "I was putting the bottles in on a Sunday and the bin was getting kind of full so I pushed mine in further and with that I caught it on the top of the circular thing and it pulled the ring off. I just heard it going clinkity, clinkity, clink all the way down."
