Dublin food market creates petition to keep location after Council decision

A south Dublin food market has created a petition to keep their location after a Dublin City Council decision to remove them.

Chestnut Bazaar was set up as a wellness and food centre on a temporary basis last year, and are now appealing to Dublin City Council to be allowed to stay put for 2023. Based off Clanbrassil Street in Dublin 8, you will find a wholesome yard full of food and wellness vendors that has become an integral part of the community in Portobello.

Businesses such as Ama Acai, Bish Bosh, and The Woodfired Pizza Company are on-site for all food lovers, as well as The Barrel Sauna and Alanina Therapies for anyone in search of some relaxation. The unused yard was taken over by the market, who set up there on a temporary basis,.

But after growing in popularity, Chestnut Bazaar appealed to Dublin City Council to remain where they are, and this appeal was rejected. They wrote on Instagram: "Unfortunately we have been told we need to close this year or legal action will be taken.

"The meanwhile use and rejuvenation of vacant spaces is addressed throughout the Dublin City Development Plan but there is no suitable or meaningful process for grassroots groups to do so." They have expressed that if they are forced to close then the area will sit "empty and lifeless" once again.

They have created a petition for locals and members of the public to sign, in hopes that the Dublin City Council will reconsider their decision and allow them to stay. You can sign the petition by clicking here.
