Labour's Joe Costello has confirmed his retirement from Dublin City Council.
Cllr Costello has represented the north inner city constituency for over three decades. The news of his resignation sparked tributes from his colleagues this evening.
Former Lord Mayor of Dublin Nial Ring paid tribute to Cllr Costello in a brief statement. He described him as an "approachable and helpful" councillor and wished him a happy retirement.
Cllr Ring wrote: "Although not from Dublin, Joe always put the people of the North Inner City and Dublin Central first and over and over again-they thanked him personally and through the ballot box. Joe has represented the area with drive, professionalism and passion for 35 years and he will be missed by his constituents and also by his fellow councillors."
