Dublin Airport reveal 'longest wait time' for passengers this morning as they work to 'rebuild trust'

Dublin Airport passengers are slowly seeing improvements after a disastrous few weeks filled with delays and missed flights.

There has been a lot of negativity aimed at staff and the daa online amid the chaos, but officials say their “full focus” is now on gaining he trust of customers back.

Major changes were made at the airport, including the closure of the main Terminal 1 departures drop-off road, to allow for marquees to be erected for those queuing outdoors - to protect them from the elements.

Conditions this weekend took a grim turn today, and it looks as if showers will continue across Dublin into next week.

Speaking to Newstalk earlier today, Graeme McQueen from the Dublin Airport Authority admitted that: “I think the events over the last week have shown that we’ve got a massive job to do to rebuild trust in Dublin Airport.

“I think that is the full focus of the team. I think there’s been pressure for us to deliver last week and this weekend.

“So far so good on that. There’s no complacency here, we know we need to do better than last weekend and as a team we’re absolutely committed to make that happen.”

There were fears that this weekend would see many more people missing flights and queuing for hours, however, Mr McQueen said that things were very much under control and the longest queue going through security today had been 43 minutes as of this afternoon.

Many holidaymakers have been taking to Twitter today to reassure others departing Ireland over the coming days with some claiming to get through security in just 15 minutes.

One person wrote: “My daughter went through Dublin airport yesterday. Deposited luggage and went through security in 15 minutes.”

Another said they were happy to sail through security, but then met another hurdle before their flight. They wrote: “Alright. Got through the security lanes in less than 20 minutes.

“BUT my flight was delayed first by 1 hour and now it’s been delayed 1 extra hour. Is this some kind of joke?”

While most people are happy with the improvements made, others find a 40 minute wait time simply not good enough.

One man wrote: “Just what you need before an early flight, a 40 or 60 minute wait at security. Embarrassing.”
