Dublin Airport passengers detail more delays as queues line up outside terminal from 4am

Queues for early morning flights from Dublin Airport were seen snaking in from outside the terminal on Friday.

People took to social media to voice their frustration at the long lines, with some describing the scenes as "absolute madness".

However, others reported that the wait times have "improved", while a spokesperson for the airport added that "security processing moved well" on Friday morning.

Graeme McQueen, Media Relations Manager at daa said: “It’s another busy Friday morning at Dublin Airport ahead of what is set to be another busy weekend. However, security processing has moved well all morning, enabled by daa’s teams on the floor in both terminals.

"As well as our regular travellers, we’re seeing lots of Leinster and Liverpool fans heading off to France this morning to watch their respective teams in European action.

"Overall, passengers were in good form, with those who heeded our advice – to get to the airport up to 2.5 hours ahead of a short-haul flight and 3.5 hours before a long-haul flight – getting through security smoothly and in plenty of time prior to their flight.”

The long wait times had subsided in recent weeks after improved staffing levels at the airport.

Despite this, some people have been voicing their concerns about flying from Dublin ahead of the weekend.

One person posted a video on Twitter showing people moving through barriers outside the building from 4am.

He described the queue outside Terminal 1 as "major" as people lined up outside for the first flights of the day.

A second person said: "Looks like another new normal being introduced at Dublin airport.

"Queues of people lining up outside on the ramp. Definitely more challenging for families with buggies /kids etc.

"60 mins to get through to airside. I used to complain when it took 20 mins in the old days..."

Another passenger commented: "In Dublin Airport here absolute madness!"

Someone else said: "Dublin airport security (T2) is slowly improving just under 1 hr to get through this morning after arriving at 3:20am."

While one passenger stated: "@DublinAirport @EamonRyan Dublin Airport is an absolute disgrace. Embarrassing excuse for a national airport."

As of 7.45am on Friday morning, the wait time to get through security as per the Dublin Airport website was 45 minutes for Terminal T1 and 25 minutes for Terminal T2.

The current advice from Dublin Airport for anyone heading away over the coming days is as follows:

  • allow up to 2.5 hours before a short-haul flight, and up to 3.5 hours before a long-haul flight
  • If your flight is at 08:30 or after, please do not enter the terminals any earlier than 06.00
  • Security in T1 is now open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Security in T2 opens at 04.00, so people flying from T2 should factor this in
  • Airline check-in desk and bag drop opening times vary, so please contact your airline to confirm and plan your journey accordingly
