Dublin Airport advises flyers not to make key security mistake ahead of busy St Patrick's weekend

Dublin Airport is due to experience one of its busiest weekends of the year as St Patrick’s Day attracts hundreds of thousands of people from abroad - and encourages the Irish to enjoy a long weekend in the sun.

This weekend over 432,000 passengers will head out of the capital’s airport to enjoy the long weekend off work.

There are also due to be around 212,000 arrivals coming in to enjoy the world-renowned festivities.

With this number of people coming and going, the potential for delays increases at the airport and so officials have issued guidance to anyone who will be flying in or out of the country this weekend.

As is standard, passengers travelling on short-haul flights are asked to arrive no more than two hours before their flight and three hours before long-haul flights.

Anyone who is planning on checking in a bag will need to give themselves an additional hour before their flight to avoid any major delays affecting their plans.

A spokesperson for Dublin Airport said there is one key thing that people can do to move swiftly through the airport, and that is to prepare for security.

There is nothing worse than getting towards the top of the line, only to be delayed by an unorganised passenger sifting through their luggage for liquids and taking off lots of jewellery.

The spokesperson advised: “In order to ensure the smoothest journey possible, Dublin Airport is advising passengers to prepare for security in advance and make their way directly to the security screening area once checked in.

“To help prepare for the security screening process, passengers should visit the Security page on the Dublin Airport website.

“Travellers are reminded that EU security regulations state that liquids over 100mls cannot be brought through the security screening area.

“Liquids under 100mls are permitted and should be placed in a single transparent, re-sealable bag measuring not more than 20cm x 20cm. Exemptions are in place for medicines and for baby food”.

Passengers are also advised to double-check which terminal their flight is departing from before they head into the airport, which you will be able to find here.

“Dublin Airport wishes all passengers a safe and celebratory weekend ahead”.
