Drunk Driver Rams Car into Crowded Gurugram Market, Injuring Six

According to investigators, a Maruti Brezza registered in Jhajjar hit multiple pedestrians, causing panic as people fled the scene. Officials said the driver attempted to reverse the vehicle to escape, but locals intercepted the car, pulled him out, and discovered he was intoxicated.

“Police reached the spot and took the suspect into custody. Arrangements were made to rush at least two of the injured to Civil Hospital, Sector 10A,” a senior police officer said. The remaining injured were taken to hospitals by locals in private vehicles.

One of the victims, 55-year-old Suli, described being hit from behind while leaving his shop. “My nephew Vikas got to know about the incident and rushed me to the hospital. At least five other people were also injured, whom locals helped immediately,” he said.

The driver was identified as Ritesh, 23, from Ladpur village in Badli, Jhajjar, according to Sandeep Turan, public relations officer of Gurugram police. Turan said Ritesh had been returning home after partying with friends in Gurugram and, in his inebriated state, lost his way and drove into the crowded market.

Ritesh, who holds a valid driving licence and owns the car, was formally arrested on Tuesday. Police confirmed that medical examinations verified he was drunk at the time of the incident.

An FIR has been registered against the accused under Sections 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 281 (rash driving on public roads) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at New Colony Police Station.

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and cooperate with police investigations as the case proceeds.
