A drone crashed into the backyard of a New Jersey home on Thursday night, adding to the mystery surrounding the increasing sightings of unmanned aircraft that continue to baffle authorities. The incident occurred in a residential area of Pequannock Township, as confirmed by the Pequannock Police Department.
Upon investigation, officials identified the downed drone as a 'hobby or toy type drone,' ruling out the possibility of it being a large commercial or military-grade drone. The mayor of Pequannock, Ryan Herd, personally visited the crash site to assess the situation.
Expressing his concerns, Mayor Herd highlighted the lack of clarity regarding the ownership and purpose of the drones flying over the area. He emphasized the need to ascertain the origins of these drones and their activities, particularly in terms of take-off and landing locations.
'Drones are flying over our houses, which is our private property. My family is here,' Mayor Herd remarked, underscoring the invasion of privacy and safety implications associated with unidentified drone flights.
