Drivers 'sickened' as man claims speed camera sign is not what we think

Speed camera signs can be spotted on most journeys - and it's pretty obvious what they are there for. Thousands of the black and white signs have been put up on roads up and down the country to warn drivers that they could be snapped for speeding.

But a debate has broken out over what the symbol on the sign actually shows. One man has shared a theory that the speed camera sign is not what we think, and it's left some people feeling "distressed."

Have you ever assumed that the sign depicts a side-profile camera? Well sorry to disappoint, but he says that's not the case.

Taking to Twitter to share his thoughts, the road user said: "For years I thought the UK speed camera sign depicted a Victorian bellows camera pointing to the right, but it’s just a boring CCTV camera pointing towards the viewer."

He added: "(I accept that it's not CCTV cos that's literally different technology, but w/e the stuff on the right is definitely an arm attachment and not old-timey bellows!)"

His theory sent drivers into a frenzy, with some even saying their life had been a lie. People's minds were blown so much that the poster later issued an apology to those he'd impacted, tweeting: "Wow I'm so sorry to have caused so much distress and discomfort."

One person replied: "I'm distressed and discomforted", while another questioned: "What is even reality?"

Another person commented: "You sicken me", while many commented with mind-blown emojis, and shocked faces at the revelation. "Ffs man why did you have to do this?", another Twitter user fumed.

However, other people refused to believe the claim and decided that they were going to ignore the tweet and keep believing the Victorian camera theory. One person said: "What are you saying? It's definitely a bellows camera. Always has been."

Another added: "No! Not having this! For me it will keep depicting a large-format bellows camera!"

What do you think the sign shows? Let us know in the comments below.
