A driver got the shock of their life when they broke a simple rule of the road - while completely unaware they were right beside a Garda.
The force have many vehicles available to them, from your standard Garda car to some of the higher-tech vans.
Another one you'll see often is Garda bicycles - as one Kilkenny driver found out to their great displeasure.
The motorist was on their way down High Street in Kilkenny town on Wednesday evening, flicking through their phone.
What they had failed to realise was that a Garda on a bicycle was right beside them as they were doing so.
A spokesperson explained: "Gardai in Kilkenny have all their vehicles out this evening, including the push bike. A little chilly but effective for patrol of Kilkenny city's streets and lane ways, the bike has it's merits.
"Of course legislation has to be enforced too as one driver found out as he drove along High Street tapping away on his phone in his hand. He was more than a little surprised to see a Garda cycling alongside. The fixed charge notice in the post will be less of a surprise."
The penalty for using your phone while driving is a fixed charge of €60, and three penalty points. This increases to a fixed charge of €90, and five penalty points if it goes to court because of non-payment.
The only exception is if you are calling emergency services on 999 or 112.
