A driver has had a miracle escape after his car burst into flames on a major Dundee road.
Fire crews rushed to Strathmartine Road shortly before 1pm today after a black Mercedes went up in flames.
The driver thanked a local for alerting him to the fire under his car and for helping him get to safety.
Speaking to The local Courier newspaper, the driver said: “I was at the approach on the circle and another motorist told me flames were coming from the bottom of the car.
“He pulled me just to get me out quickly as he knew how bad it was.
“I can’t thank that Samaritan enough for what he did.”
Another witness described seeing pieces of the car on the road.
She told The Courier: “The way the car went up so quickly, I’ve never seen a fire so ferocious.
“There was bit exploding off the car that had damaged a vehicle nearby.
“As soon as the emergency services arrived they got everyone well back and erected a cordon.”
A spokesman for Scottish Fire and Rescue said: “He added: “One appliance was dispatched from the Macalpine Fire Station after reports of a vehicle on fire.
“Officers used one hose reel jet at the scene and one breathing apparatus.
“We received a stop message shortly before 2pm.”
